CONGRATULATIONS Basic Law Enforcement Recruit Clas

CONGRATULATIONS Basic Law Enforcement Recruit Class 174 on graduating from the Law Enforcement Academy at the Santa Fe College Institute of Public Safety!

These recruits have put in many hours of hard work, completing an intensive 770-hour Law Enforcement Training Program and successfully passing numerous academy examinations. They also all recently passed the Florida State Officer Certification Examination.

The recruits will now start ASO’s Mini Training Academy Program, where they’ll put their academy knowledge into practice as they prepare to become solo patrol deputies.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to welcome Major Laura Rivera to the Department of the Jail. Major Rivera brings more than 23 years of leadership experience in Florida corrections, beginning her career with the Orange County Corrections Department in 2002 before serving with the Osceola County Corrections Department.

Throughout her career, she has held a variety of leadership roles in detention operations, overseeing security, inmate services, personnel management, strategic planning, accreditation, and organizational initiatives.

Major Rivera holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. She is also a graduate of the National Jail Leadership Command Academy, the Florida Certified Public Manager Program, the Certified Corrections Manager Program, and several other advanced leadership and professional development courses.

Major Rivera looks forward to working alongside the dedicated men and women of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and contributing to the continued success of the Department of the Jail through professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to public service.

The Alachua County Sheriff's Office Administration Building is located off SE Hawthorne Road in Gainesville, Florida.

For visitation at the Jail, that facility is located at 3333 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32609.

Please note: our building lobbies are not staffed or equipped to handle emergencies 24 hours a day. If you need help right away, never hesitate to call 911.
