STANDARD, MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO JOIN THE TEAM
ALL POSITIONS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Good moral character with no felony convictions or misdemeanors involving moral character violations or false statements
- Current, valid Florida Driver License/Identification Card at the time of hire (depending on position)
- Flexible scheduling – Many positions work rotating shifts that may include days, nights, weekends and/or holidays
All future employees must successfully complete a background investigation that includes:
- Drug Screen
- Polygraph Examination
- Physical Examination
- Psychological Examination
DEPUTY SHERIFF
All our common standards, plus:
- 21 years old or older
- United States citizen
- Current Law Enforcement certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards Training Center (FDLE CJSTC)
- Good driving record
- Live in Alachua County or in a county contiguous to Alachua County, with a residence no further than 20 minutes from the Alachua County line, or one (1) hour from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office
- Successful completion of Physical Agility Test and Firearms Qualification
- Note: Alachua County residency required for take-home vehicle benefits
DETENTION OFFICER
All our common standards, plus:
- 18 years old or older
- United States citizen
- Current Correctional certification from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Standards Training Center (FDLE CJSTC)
- Good driving record
- Successful completion of Physical Agility Test and Firearms Qualification
911 TELECOMMUNICATOR
All our common standards, plus:
- 18 years old or older
- Ability to type 35 correct words per minute
- Successful completion of the CritiCall Public Safety Communications Test
