Next week is National Correctional Officers Week, Next week is National Correctional Officers Week, and we’re grateful to the @alachuacounty Board of County Commissioners for taking time during yesterday’s meeting to recognize the hardworking men and women at the Department of the Jail.

Their proclamation honoring May 3rd-9th shines a spotlight on the Detention Officers and Detention Deputies who serve our community every day. Behind the walls of our jail, they help ensure safety and security while also treating those in custody with dignity and respect. #corrections #jail #correctionalofficer #alachua #gainesville

Shortly before 11:45am on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, deputies responded to a crash involving a 2017 blue Kia, in the 6700 block of SW 170th St in Archer.

During the crash investigation, it was revealed that the Kia, driven by 22-year-old Dajuan Myhand, was stolen earlier in the day out of Alachua County. The vehicle’s owner stated they last saw the vehicle on April 27th parked in their driveway.

Deputies made contact with Myhand and interviewed him about how he got possession of the vehicle. Using law enforcement databases, deputies were able to confirm the Kia’s direction of travel and whereabouts, which conflicted with Myhand’s information.

A query of Myhand revealed he is a convicted felon, previously serving time for Grand Theft of a Firearm and Armed Burglary.

Myhand was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries before being arrested. He is in the Alachua County Jail and charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
