School Crossing Guards are an important part of ke School Crossing Guards are an important part of keeping our children safe, but they also become a familiar and comforting part of the school day for students and parents alike. A friendly wave, a smile, and a watchful eye can make all the difference during busy mornings and afternoons.

We recently received a message from a citizen who wanted to give a special shoutout and share their appreciation for SCG Albertha Williams, who works the morning and afternoon crossing at NW 98th St. and NW 23rd Ave. for Hidden Oak Elementary and Ft. Clarke Middle School.

Here’s the message:

“She is just terrific. She always has a smile, she waves at everyone, she is so conscientious about getting the children and their parents safely across that intersection. It is a VERY busy intersection, especially in the morning and afternoon when she is there, and she NEVER gets distracted. We cannot say enough about how much we appreciate her and her work ethic!!!”

WE SEE YOU SCG Albertha Williams!
Nothing says summer quite like the 81st Annual New Nothing says summer quite like the 81st Annual Newberry Watermelon Festival!

Members of our Public Information and Community Services Division were proud to take part in the festivities at this past Saturday’s longtime community tradition.  They had a booth full of activities for visitors of all ages. From putt-putt and cornhole, to spinning the prize wheel, there was no shortage of smiles throughout the day. Kids also had the chance to pick out fun prizes including sunglasses, Beanie Babies, and treasures from our toy chest filled with slinkies, bubbles, and more.

Events like the Newberry Watermelon Festival remind us just how special this community is… and we’d say the day was one in a melon! #publicsafety #protectandserve #watermelon #newberry #watermelonfestival
