Late in the evening of Sunday, March 1st, deputies with the Alachua County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 10900 block of US Hwy 441 South. The caller advised that a male subject was dangerously close to the roadway and difficult for passing motorists to see, creating a serious safety concern.

Deputy Valbuena and Deputy Cortes arrived on scene and made contact with the individual. During the encounter, the subject attempted to conceal his identity by providing a false name. Deputies worked diligently to uncover his true identity as Darien Ford, who was wanted out of the state of Maryland for Involuntary Manslaughter.

Ford has been on the run for more than four years.

He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Alachua County Jail, where he is being held pending extradition back to Maryland.

This incident is yet another reminder that even routine calls for service can lead to significant arrests. If you see something suspicious or unsafe, please report it. Your call could make all the difference.
