On the afternoon of Friday, March 13th, 23-year-old Kobe Delima stayed true to his name when he was contacted by Deputy Dugger while being investigated for a misdemeanor shoplifting case.

You see, Kobeโ€™s โ€œdilemmaโ€ was whether to stick around and face the shoplifting charge or run from deputies and add several more charges to the list. While neither option is ideal, running from law enforcement is never the better choice.

Kobe chose to flee on foot from Deputy Dugger and Deputy Aldous, leading deputies down several local roads before he was ultimately taken into custody. Early in the encounter, Deputy Dugger noticed Kobe appeared to be using his left hand to hold a large bulge protruding from the front of his waistband.

During the foot pursuit, deputies discovered the item in his waistband was a loaded semi-automatic handgun. And spoiler alert, Kobe is a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Instead of just dealing with a misdemeanor shoplifting charge, Kobe now finds himself charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of Ammunition by a Convicted Felon, Retail Theft, Possession of Marijuana, and Tampering with Evidence.

This incident is another reminder of the dangers deputies face every day, where something that begins as a simple shoplifting investigation can quickly turn into the pursuit of an armed felon.
๐Ÿ”” SERVICE RESTORED ๐Ÿ”” We are happy to report that ๐Ÿ”” SERVICE RESTORED ๐Ÿ””

We are happy to report that our IT team has restored network service and visitation as been returned to normal operation.

Thank you for your patience.

The Alachua County Sheriffโ€™s Office Department of the Jail is experiencing a facility wide network outage that is preventing our staff from accessing or approving in person or video visitation.

We recognize that contact with your loved one is paramount and our IT team is working diligently to get our system back up and running with hopes that we can allow visitation this afternoon.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
