What a day! Our 2nd Annual Community Fun Day this What a day! Our 2nd Annual Community Fun Day this past Saturday was full of energy, connection, and plenty of smiles from start to finish.

Families from across the community came out to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the Easton-Newberry Sports Complex, complete with bounce houses, jumbo games, a reading corner, and a hands-on Touch-A-Truck experience featuring our helicopter, SWAT, Bomb Team, Marine Unit, and Alachua County Fire Rescue.

With more than 25 incredible community partners on site, attendees had the opportunity to connect with valuable local resources while supporting one another.

Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make this event a success, including the City of Newberry, Children’s Trust, UF Autism and Disabilities, Blossoming Butterfly, UF Cancer Institute, HPW, Goodwill, Domino’s, Waste Pro, and Coca-Cola! We love seeing our community come together like this. We’re looking forward to the next one! #communityfirst #protectandserve #publicsafety #publicservice #newberry #communityfun #communitysupport #lawenforcement #alachuacounty #acso
Sheriff Scott joined Alachua County Commissioner M Sheriff Scott joined Alachua County Commissioner Mary Alford, and Gainesville Mayor Harvey Ward for a panel discussion at the Collaborative Summit on Families Experiencing Homelessness, being held today at Santa Fe College Blount Center.

The conversation focused on strengthening support for families facing housing instability; expanding access to funding and affordable housing, approaching the issue with compassion, and building a stronger network of resources through community partnerships.

Sheriff Scott highlighted several initiatives within the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, including the jail’s CHANGE program, the Homeless Action Team (HAT), and Co-Responder Teams made up of a deputy and a Masters Level Mental Health Clinician from Meridian. He also emphasized the importance of exploring ways to adjust housing qualification requirements and continuing to educate deputies in the field to help deter unnecessary incarceration.

Working together, these efforts reflect a shared commitment to creating meaningful solutions and stronger pathways to stability for our community.
