May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to fo May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to focus on the psychological and emotional well-being of ourselves and those around us. Itโ€™s an opportunity to increase awareness, recognize the signs, share resources, and continue working to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. No one should ever feel like they have to suffer in silence.

In law enforcement, we know that many of the individuals we encounter may be experiencing a mental health crisis. That understanding is why our Co-Responder Teams play such a critical role. These teams consist of a Crisis Intervention Team deputy partnered with a masterโ€™s-level mental health clinician from Meridian. Since launching at ASO in June 2020, these professionals have responded together to calls involving mental health crises, substance use disorders, and emotionally charged situations.

By working side by side, they provide immediate support, education, follow-up care, and community resources, often helping prevent unnecessary incarceration or hospitalization. ASO is proud to have three Co-Responder Teams dedicated to this important work.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available:

 *  National Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: 988
 *  SAMHSA Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP (4357) #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupport

May 3rd - 9th is National Correctional Officers Week, a time to recognize and thank the dedicated Detention Officers and Detention Deputies who work tirelessly to maintain a safe, secure, and humane environment within our Department of the Jail.

Their role is often misunderstood, but their commitment is vital not only to the safety of their fellow colleagues and our community, but also to the wellbeing and care of those incarcerated. Through professionalism, compassion, and unwavering dedication, they serve an essential role in the mission of public safety.

Hear from some of our committed Detention Officers and Deputies as they share how they support that mission through the three Cโ€™s of Corrections: Care, Custody, and Control.
