𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭: Detention Officer J 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭:

Detention Officer James Ratliff was promoted to the rank of Acting Sergeant and assigned to the Security Operation Division. 

A/Sgt. Ratliff has worked in Corrections for 13 years, including 9 of them for ASO at the Department of the Jail. His experience includes the Special Operations Division, and the Support Services Division as a Transport Team member. 

A/Sgt. Ratliff is currently a member of the Cell Extraction Response Team (CERT), and assists as a General/Firearms Instructor with CERT’s monthly training. 

Also, while at the DOJ, A/Sgt. Ratliff was a Field Training Officer, attended multiple career development courses, and was Employee of the Month in December of 2025.

A/Sgt. Ratliff earned his Associates degree in Criminal Justice in May of 2020.

For visitation at the Jail, that facility is located at 3333 NE 39th Avenue, Gainesville, Florida 32609.

Please note: our building lobbies are not staffed or equipped to handle emergencies 24 hours a day. If you need help right away, never hesitate to call 911.
