During the early morning hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026, deputies received real-time intelligence that a stolen silver Kia was travelling in the area of SW Gainesville. ACSO deputies and officers from the @gainesvillepolice, started to canvas the area to locate the car.

The vehicle, which was unoccupied, was located by DS J. McWilliams in the 3500 block of SW 20th Ave. A perimeter was established around the vehicle’s location in an effort to apprehend the associated suspects.

Just after 2:30 a.m., Lt. Cook observed two black males get into the vehicle. Lt. Cook moved his patrol vehicle behind the stolen vehicle, boxing it in, while activating his emergency lights. Both suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued, and the driver, later identified as 19-year-old Camren Banks, entered a fenced-in backyard to a nearby residence and climbed on top of a roof in an effort to evade law enforcement. Despite numerous lawful commands to comply with law enforcement, Banks refused. After continued announcements and with the building surrounded, Banks eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.

While evading deputies, Banks damaged the fence he used to climb on the roof.

The other male suspect is outstanding as the investigation continues.

Banks was charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Burglary of Residence, Criminal Mischief Less than $200, and two counts of Resisting an Officer Without Violence.

Our first Spring Break Fun event was a great succe

Our first Spring Break Fun event was a great success! We had a phenomenal turnout in Micanopy at the Willie Mae Stokes Community Center.

Families spent quality time together playing basketball, Jenga, Connect Four, Uno, and more. Our Community Relations team served up more than 100 hamburgers, hot dogs, and snacks, making sure everyone left with a full belly.

Kids also walked away with raffle prizes and books to enjoy at home. It was a fantastic way to kick off the week and celebrate the start of spring break!
